I'd made the decision about a month ago not to participate to loudly today. The loss of my own light- my sista girl- the women who could set me straight with a glance and lift me to the rafters with a wicked thought;After living with HIV for 13 years; to lose her so senselessly after the Towers fell is still too fresh in my mind. Today is a quiet reflection on what was promised, what's been accomplished and what's left to get done.

I'm great, your son's are becoming the men you always wanted them to be, and we still continue to fight for everyone.

Bringing back Saturday Mornings

Do you recall with any glee the simplicity of waking on a Saturday morning with nothing to do but catching your favorite toons? Tom & Jerry, Donald and the whole quacking crew, Robots; I'm talking Gigantor here kids, not the eighties versions.

Adult Swim, seen late weeknights on the Cartoon network has some great stuff, but the high note is Seth Green's "Robot Chicken".
The animation is rudimentary at best, but the content is pure genius. He's using topical subjects played against our best loved toons with some current references thrown in to boost the screams and howls the shows produce. That and he's got some of the very best voice over talent and a cadre of Hollywood's Gen Ex up and comers adding their own acting skills to the mix. The U-Tube below is a great mix of the season so far. At 15min per episode you've just gotta record a few to watch. And the opening sequence of how the title came about is pure "Clockwork Orange"

Friday Nite Funstuff - These Boots are Made for Walking

The clip says so much about our lives. From walking timidly out on our own into the world where it's all too easy to be chewed up and left for dead as nothing more than roadkill. That is until our big sisters come along and bring us back into the fold that supports and nurtures our off-kilter independence.

I've given up on films when some random reviewer says 'I must see it'. Truth be told, I've never followed the crowd in these matters and I haven't trusted a written film review since the Times 'retired' Janet Maslin and Elvis Mitchell.

However, after seeing this clip, I definitely missed out by not catching Kinky Boots in theatres. Not that I can't or won't go out and get the DVD; but I do love sitting in a large theatre, alone, and enjoying the big screen and I'm sorry I let this one slip buy. This film is not to be missed.

Like the great mind(s), over at BlogActive, I've become a big fan of Deb Price of the Detroit News. This week, Deb writes a great analysis of the elections and what it means for gays. In this overview, Deb doesn't forget about the gains we made outside of Congress, in state legislatures and Governors' mansions.

The whole article is great, but I'm partial to the part where Deb reminds us of the homophobes who lost.Pelosi signals fresh start on gay rights - The Detroit News Online:

Republican mudslingers digging deep into their anti-gay mud buckets to try to use Pelosi's gay friendliness to scare voters got a very clear message back: What really would have been spooky was leaving the current crop of Republicans in charge of Congress. Two of the most anti-gay Republicans -- Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, who compared gay sex to 'man-on-dog' sex, and Rep. John Hostettler of Indiana, who tried to strip federal courts of authority over gay marriage -- got the voters' boot.

Ann Coulter to be Investigated for Voting Fraud

This day just keep's on getting better.

As previously reported by Andy Towle in his award winning blog. Ann Coulter had used an address that wasn't her own when voting in Palm Beach county in Florida. Now it appears to be catching up with her.

Allegations that Ann Coulter voted knowingly in the wrong South Florida precinct February 7 will be referred to the state attorney "within 48 hours," Palm Beach election supervisor Arthur Anderson said yesterday.

Coulter's registration showed an address that wasn't hers. Coulter listed the address of her realtor, though the realtor, Suzanne Frisbie, says she wasn't living there.

According to Anderson, since the charges of fraud arose, Coulter has made "efforts to distract and divert focus on the process regarding this complaint."

What will her piehole have to say about this?

Rosie, David, and Wolf: Why Don't They Want Us to Win?

After failing to gain traction with its "a vote for Democrats is a vote for Osama" ad campaign, the Republicans' message machine has adopted an even more irrational strategy: Go after the talk show hosts!

That's right. Painting Jim Webb as a pornographer, Harold Ford as a playah, and Michael J. Fox as a Parkinson's poseur fizzled.

So now it's Wolf Blitzer, David Letterman, and Rosie O'Donnell and the rest of The View crew in the crosshairs, being sleazed as part of the Hate America First Coalition.

"Do you want the United States to win in Iraq?" thundered Bill O'Reilly to David Letterman. "Do you right now? Do you want the United States to win?"

He had the same question for Rosie, Joy Behar, and Barbara Walters: "Do you want America to win in Iraq?" When a yes or no answer wasn't immediately forthcoming, O'Reilly leapt to the conclusion: "So you don't want America to win in Iraq..."

And it isn't just O'Reilly. GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter also played the guilt-by-insinuation card, asking Wolf Blitzer: "Does CNN want America to win this thing? You can't be on both sides of the war."

If he'd had time for a follow up, Hunter no doubt would have asked, "And have you stopped beating your wife?"

Clearly indicating that the Vice President's residence had also gotten the kill-the-messenger-memo, Lynne Cheney took time out from denying her past endeavors as a salacious scribe to pose the same loaded query to Blitzer: "Do you want us to win?"

For the record, Blitzer replied: "The answer, of course, is we want the United States to win. We are Americans. There's no doubt about that." But it didn't really matter; the sleazy implication had already been slung, the subconscious connection made: these TV folk must not want us to win! Just like the Democrats.

That's clearly the lizard brain synapse Karl Rove is hoping to activate. Stumping in Georgia yesterday, President Bush connected the dots: "The Democrat approach in Iraq comes down to this: the terrorists win and America loses."

There you have it: pull the lever for anyone with a (D) next to their name and it's as good as handing the Stanley Cup, the Super Bowl trophy, the Masters green jacket, and the keys to Baghdad to al Qaeda.

Can you think of anything more absurd than that? Other than accusing Michael J. Fox of faking his symptoms or trying to score political points by implying that Joy Behar is an al Qaeda appeaser.

Indeed, it was actually Behar who provided the most cogent response to the "Do you want America to win?" nonsense -- one that all Democratic candidates should pick up -- when she turned the tables on O'Reilly and asked: "What does it mean to win?"

That should be the defining question of the next 7 days.

Let's just stipulate that everyone in America not in a straight jacket or part of a terrorist sleeper cell wants America to "win" -- and center the debate on what, exactly, the president and the GOP mean by victory.

And please, Mr. President, don't give us the usual bromides about stable democracy or Iraq security forces standing up so we can stand down. It's become all-to-clear that those are benchmarks that won't be met in the foreseeable future.

On Monday Bush said, "The Democrat goal is to get out of Iraq. The Republican goal is to win in Iraq."

Hmm, I know what Democrats reaching their supposed goal would look like -- but can't say the same for the Republican goal.

What does it mean to win? Republicans clearly don't have an answer. That's why they are throwing the trash-the-media Hail Mary. And why the rest of us should keep demanding an answer to the question of what winning is.

A new ad, set to debut at 3:30 today will parody an ad accused of race-baiting Tennessee Democrat Harold Ford by gay-baiting Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman.

The ad, produced by Proud of Who We Are and BlogActive, is a parody mocking the the RNC's now-infamous 'call me' ad. That spot, which the RNC eventually pulled this month, showed a scantily clad white actress saying she met Ford at 'the Playboy party.' It ended with her asking the congressman to call her. Many analysts believe it was produced to play on racist fears of interracial relationships.

Too many gay activists do stellar work fighting against anti-gay marriage amendments and laws. But they are too often crippled by self-censorship and, well, politics. Evan Wolfson, one of the heroes of today's civil rights movement, expains why this is counter-productive here:

So far, too many of our state campaigns—both the short-term election efforts and the longer-term public education work—fail to offer the voting public real content and an authentic engagement. Too often they have not used the airtime of an election battle to talk about gay people and marriage — the two things these ballot measures are most about — instead relying on generic appeals to fairness. Too many of our side's campaigns have chosen to emphasize collateral effects on non-gay families, as if voters will really be persuaded that what the media will always refer to as "the marriage amendment" is somehow not about gay people's freedom to marry. Worst of all, many campaigns and activists have gone with the message that people should vote the measure down simply because it is "unnecessary" or "goes too far." That subliminally suggests — unintentionally, but in a way that is still damaging to our long-term movement — that some discrimination is okay and that it would indeed be a problem if we really did have gay couples marrying.

We will not win until we are unafraid. I believe civil marriage for gay couples is moral, it is right, it is good for society - and anything less is immoral, wrong and bad for society as a whole. (My fundamental case is made in my 1995 book, "Virtually Normal.") Let us make this case - calmly, honestly, openly. And we will win - for one reason only. Because we are right.

I went to, www.judiciary.state.nj.us/opinions/supreme/a-68-05.pdf as soon as I heard the decision was made public. Reading the syllabus gives you most of the info you need on this one.

On the one hand they left us in the lurch by not finding in complete favor with the plaintiffs. On the other, by leaving the next step in the hands of the legislature, we may have gotten the ruling we need. NJ gets the same protections as Vt. and other states.

Steven Goldstein, the chairman of the gay-rights group Garden State Equality, said the courts decision was disappointing. “Those who would view today's ruling as a victory for same sex couples are dead wrong,” he said. “Half-steps short of marriage — like New Jersey’s domestic-partnership law and also civil union laws — don’t work in the real world.”Mr. Goldstein was among those who celebrated the domestic partnership law, but he would later find that it fell short of expectations. He said today that “hospitals and other employers have told domestic-partnered couples across New Jersey: We don’t care what the domestic partnership law says, you’re not married.”

In the last few years, public opinion has become more accepting of gay marriage, at least in New Jersey. A Rutgers-Eagleton poll of New Jersey residents taken in June found that 50 percent said they supported allowing same-sex couples to marry legally, while 44 percent were opposed. (The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points.) When the poll asked the same question in 2003, 43 percent of respondents supported legal recognition for gay marriage and 50 percent were opposed.

The Gov. wants it passed. The House and Senate may experience the upheaval come election day necessary for all to become aware of what the public wants.

The Case Study houses were a project by Arts & Architecture magazine which ran from the mid-40's to the mid 60's and featured model homes built by a range of prominent architects. Pierre Koenig designed houses #21 and #22. The one for sale has been restored to its original design, and Julius Shulman, whose photographs of the case study houses are some of the most well-known architectural images ever made, was hired to re-shoot the house, not a small feat as Shulman is 96.

Sgt. James Wright, 31, who lost his hands and part of his leg, appears on the back cover in full uniform, saluting with what's left of his right arm. Several members of the group, promoting the calendar on a cross-country tour, said they have medical conditions, ranging from combat stress-related symptoms to injuries to their feet, knees, hips and backs from carrying combat loads of more than 200 pounds. When service members come back, “many don't have the financial or emotional support to get back to daily life,” said former Sgt. Michael Saucier, 24, of Prior Lake, Minn., who served two Iraq tours and is now a carpenter's apprentice in Lake Tahoe, Nev. “It's a stopgap effort to help people where government programs leave off,” said Rudy Reyes, who served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and is on the calendar's cover. “This is a way for citizens to help citizens.”The $14.99 calendar promises “100 percent of proceeds aid wounded heroes and their families.”
